Biographies of Principals
Harley is a social entrepreneur, grant writer, creative media professional, and nonprofit leader who has built strong, stable, innovative programs that have significant ties to the community. To accomplish this, he drills down to the most essential cause and effect issues and identifies achievable solutions that produce measurable results. Harley has worked in education, youth development, social justice, healthy aging, the arts, social services, environment, open adoption, media, sports, and more.
Harley is drawn to challenging projects that have social significance and lasting value. His specialties include grant and report writing; creating programmatic and organizational blueprints, timelines, and budgets; communications; media including radio, print, and video; operational management; cultivating partnerships; start-ups and turn-arounds; and strategic planning and vision.
Harley holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and a Master of Fine Arts Degree in motion picture and television producing from UCLA.
Harley is always looking for his next great adventure but when there is a pause in the action you will likely find him and Buddy, his Australian Shepherd, headed to the wilderness.

Julie is a dynamic and experienced nonprofit executive, systems thinker, and bridge builder. She has worked for organizations focusing on environmental protection, international development, music education/performance, public health, farmworker justice, fair trade, and more in capacities ranging from program development and oversight to communications, grant writing and community organizing.
She has deep empathy for the fact that nonprofit organizations are sometimes hindered by the very idealism that fuels their desire to make the world a better place. Julie’s decision to join Harley in creating ignite was born of a burning desire to put the dynamic tension between her heart and brain to the highest possible use in a nonprofit organizational development context.
Julie is bilingual, has worked extensively with Spanish-speaking populations in the U.S., Mexico and Central America, and is currently the Program Director of San Jose Jazz Progressions. Work with these groups has had a profound impact on Julie’s understanding of her own place in the world.
Julie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Berkeley and Master of Arts from American University in Washington, D.C.
Julie is deeply committed to her yoga practice and feels blessed to count on the unconditional support of her husband David and the boundless energy of her two children, Kyle and Ella.
